Mentoring

One-to-one support from a yoga teacher and independent yoga business owner

Support to help your yoga business flourish

Helping you grow as a teacher

Have you just finished your teacher training and need some support for your next steps?

Or have big dreams but aren't sure where to begin. Or feel like you don't fit within the studio system and are looking for support as an independent teacher and yoga business owner.

Jo has over 20 years experience as a yoga teacher and sole trader, which includes establishing a home studio, teaching online, starting a podcast, pitching and publishing a book, teaching community programs and successfully applying for grant funding.

Her mentoring program can support you in evolving your business, finding your voice as a teacher in class and online and growing your yoga business your own way.

She can also support you to navigate challenging situations that come up in class and meet the needs of a diverse range of students within a trauma informed and accessible framework.

She can help you identify your strengths, find new directions for your business in these challenging times and support you along the way, so you can continue to support your community.

Enquire about Yoga Teacher Mentoring

Our mentoring program helps you identify and develop your strengths as a teacher and supports you in the areas where you wish to cultivate growth. Sixty minute sessions cost $150 ($120 concession) which can be in person or online, and are followed up with written notes and an action plan for your short and long term goals. You decide how many sessions you need, and the frequency. Your mentoring sessions can also take the form of supervised practice teaching (for your friends) at Garden of Yoga, with feedback after. This a great option for new teachers who don't feel ready for public classes yet. Limited scholarship places are available to members of marginalised communities and identities with the goal of creating more equity within the yoga community. If this applies to you, please let us know your background and why you would like to work with us. The first step is to fill out our short questionnaire so we can learn more about you and get started!

Supervised Teaching Sessions

It can feel like a big leap from teaching within a training to launching your own classes out in the world!

It can be particularly challenging starting out as an aerial yoga teacher, since specialised equipment and insurance is required. Jo can help to bridge the gap between teacher training and professional teaching by offering supervised practice teaching sessions.

You can teach your friends or family members at our beautiful space here at Garden of Yoga, and receive real time feedback and support to help you grow into a confident and competent teacher. Since these sessions are fully supervised you will be covered by our insurance and first aid certification, which is especially helpful for newly qualified teachers. Jo is also a qualified Pilates instructor and we have a reformer onsite, so we can also support Pilates teachers in training.

Jo can also support established teachers looking for fresh inspiration, sequencing ideas, strategies to make aerial yoga more accessible and to share yoga philosophy within your classes.

Mentoring Feedback

Jo possesses a wealth of experience and knowledge of aerial yoga and the roots of traditional yoga. She has over 20 years teaching, has been running her own studio for about a decade, runs a successful yoga podcast and has just published her book “8 limbs of yoga”, in preparation for running teacher trainings for aerial yoga (keep your eyes peeled, people!)

Under her mentorship, I have grown more skilled and confident in delivering aerial yoga classes to students. Her recently published textbook is a phenomenal testament to her decades of teaching and running her own studio, and has helped me to understand the lineage of yoga and how it connects to aerial yoga. Her mentoring is supportive, encouraging and transparent. I really appreciate her direct feedback, clear communication and her willingness to help those who are mentored by her how best to navigate things like pay conditions, working conditions, how to run workshops, use of photography in social media, the networking side of things.

Most of all, she has a living, breathing relationship with a trauma-informed approach that is clear in everything she does, and it inspires me to stick to my own personal values in an industry that is influenced by modern society.
